Wedding Pics

Our wedding pictures have arrived!!
After religiously checking the mailbox everyday for two weeks - and finding nothing - it was clear the photos had disappeared in the mail. Luckily, we were able to swing by our photographers house in Calgary and get another copy of the CD...complete with 880 photos!! I can't post all my favourites, but here are is a small sampling of the work from DRG Photography.

Honeymooning

After the wedding, Special K and I went to California for a fun, albeit much too-short, honeymoon. We only had 4 days really, so in a nutshell, this is what we did (don't panic, this is a family friendly post):

Day 1: Flew to San Diego, rented a red mustang convertible and cruised around Old Town and Coronado island. We walked along the pier and even a toured the USS Midway, a retired aircraft carrier (which was much more interesting than it sounds, ladies).

Day 2 &3 : Drove up the Pacific Coast highway to Long Beach, stopping here and there to watch the surfers in Laguna Beach and Huntington beach.

Once in Long Beach, we boarded the ferry to Catalina Island. Fun fact: The whole island is owned by the Wrigleys (yes, the gum people), and everyone drives a golf cart!

There were pimped out golf carts, golf carts with baby seats,  golf cart tow-trucks. So cute.

We also did a lot of this.

Day 3&4: After spending the night in Huntington Beach (hot tip: for your next US holiday, try using Hotwire.com to book your hotel, we lucked out big time.), we drove to Escondido, the wild animal park, and did a zip-line tour over the animals. It was very very cool, and left one of us with extremely white knuckles (rhymes with dirt).

This was the route
He did not want to let go

These are rhinos, really.

soaring like a bird!

We did it!

We spent that last night in the "Gaslamp" district of San Diego, just relaxing and people watching from the outdoor restaurants. We also gorged ourselves on the best crab-stuffed lobster!

Sure we found out afterwards that it cost $96, but what the hell! Look how happy he is.

Wedding Bells

The peacock wedding was a success!! It was a perfect day, in my mind anyway! Everything turned out just great -- thanks a million to everyone who helped in some way! (Especially my parents and wedding party -- I love you guys:)

So much preparation goes into the day, and then it's all over so fast! I wish I could do it again just to have more time to enjoy everything and visit with people for more than 30 seconds each! I can't wait for the pictures -- I should be getting them in a week or two, so stay tuned!! Although most of it is a blur, here are my favourite/most memorable moments of the day:

*Walking down the isle with my parents and seeing Kirt's beaming face waiting for me.
*The dress tying fiasco. It took 6 hands and one multi-tasking photographer to tie that thing up without showing any crack.
*The cake! How awesome was that? And so tasty too. Rose Sen, you are the master cake decorator.
*The ice sculpture. It took a while to catch on, but it was a hit and the boys enjoyed smashing it in the parking lot afterwards.
*The toasts. Everyone did so great! I loved Steven's sense of humour..."Love is like wetting your pants...everyone can see it, but only you can feel it!"...Dad's touching welcome to the family speach - there wasn't a dry eye in the place after that...and the girls' clever "Meagan is unique" toast -- you girls are so dang creative!
*The food. Pat's Palate Pleasers cooked up some fine chicken (or was it peacock??) And could I ever go for a bowl of McKay's ice cream right now...
*The slideshow. It was my little project for, oh, approximately 1 million hours, and I was sooo glad it turned out!

Oh, and pretty much everything else :)

Distracted

Has it really been 50 days since my last post? Well, that's what happens when you're distracted by the likes of these:
 And this:

Oh, and don't forget this:

I tell ya, getting distracted by all things peacock has been more time consuming than actual wedding planning!

Prairie Surfing

Wakeboarding is soooo last year...it's all about lake surfing now! Here's a few pics from a recent camping/boating weekend at Gregoire lake. It's actually pretty easy to get up, staying up is the hard part.
Step one: plant your feet, hang on tight and get out of the cold water as soon as possible

next, pull yourself up on the wave

When you're in the right spot, you won't even need the rope anymore.
Throw it in the back of the boat and ride the wave!

Final step, brace for landing!

Special K makes it look easy

Summer's End Festival

Of all places to perform, REBA picked Fort McMurray. They must have gave her a truck load of money to do it, but I'm glad they did. She's a great preformer and she sounds exactly the same live as on the radio. And she played lots of old stuff too like my two personal favs, Fancy and Does He Love You. What was she doing in Ft.Mac you ask? Well it was part of the "Summers End" festival which also included Dierks Bentley and George Canyon. All three were fantastic. I had so much fun at Deirks too and he even gave me a shout out! Sure, I may have been dressed skankily and waving an inappropriately shaped cup in the air, but he still noticed! And I swear the drummer tried to throw me his drumstick too, but it didn't quite make it and some teenybopper infront of me snatched it. Oh well. It was a great weekend!

United Way

Whoa, it's been a while hasn't it. I probably lost my 2 readers by now, but incase you're still hanging on, here's an update for you! A couple weeks ago was the Finning United Way fundraiser. You may recall last year's party, which was cowboy theme. This year was Carribean theme and just as fun. They raised a ton of money, Kirt won himself a new apron, and did pretty good at the blackjack table too. Too bad it wasn't real money!

KISS

Special K ended up scoring some free tickets to see KISS on the weekend, so we joined the 12,000 other people at Mac Island for the outdoor concert. It was pretty sweet - mostly for the people watching and the shrimp in the VIP section. Rock on Fort McMurray!

Back Alley Excitement

I've been posting quite a bit about fires lately, and yesterday there was another one right in the back alley! At four in the morning, Kirt woke up to investigate a strange noise (which is odd because he can sleep through anything) He looked out the blinds and said "holy sh*t!" The neighbours garage was on fire.

Dad happened to be up visiting, and he heard the same strange noise (which turned out to be an oxy/acetylene tank releasing). I took pictures while Kirt ran to rescue his truck which was parked behind the garage, and dad started hosing down the other garages until the fire dept. showed up.

Our garage is on the left.

And guess who happened to be on the end of the hose? Fireman Steve!

Their garage, motorcycle and all of his tools are toast, but luckily no one was hurt. Coincidentally, they had just moved their two sports cars out of the garage that day to make room for a party they were going to be having. So it could have been much worse. Good job FMM fire dept! And garden hose operators Ken & Kirt.
